Death due to accident or illness
Insurance benefits in the event of a child's death
- No benefits are provided for the surviving parents after a child's death, whether from an accident or an illness. No benefits are payable from the 1st or the 2nd pillars.
Insurance benefits in the event of the death of a parent
- Children receive benefits from various social security organisations after the death of a parent so that they are not left in difficult financial circumstances.
Benefits from the 1st and 2nd pillars
- If a father or mother dies, the AHV pays an orphan's benefit for each child. However, this only applies if your child is below the age of 18, or if your child is still in education and has not yet reached the age of 25.
- An orphan's benefit is paid for each surviving child if a parent is lost. However, this only applies if your child is below the age of 18, or if your child is still in education and is not yet 25. The orphan's benefit is paid by UVG accident insurance UVG and/or the pension fund.
Please note the following
Additional insurance protection is necessary if you, as a parent, fully or partially discontinue your employment in order to raise a child. This is because the 2nd pillar wholly or partly ceases to apply.
